The first race of the year for the Kalì Kart Racing Team, which took place in Sarno for the 2nd round of the WSK Master Series , achieved all the objectives set on the eve. The priorities were to start working from a technical point of view with the new drivers and guarantee them a race weekend in which they could get along well with the technical staff and the 2025 chassis.
From this point of view, Ilya Berezkin’s debut in OK Junior was very positive, even if his weekend was tainted by an unpleasant episode in which the Russian driver is totally blameless, but which completely compromised a possible positive result. The facts that we report, without expressing opinions or giving evaluations as they are the responsibility of the Stewards, saw a driver of the Prema team voluntarily hitting Berezkin on Saturday morning after the chequered flag at the end of the warm-up, in all likelihood to make amends after being wronged the day before during a Heat. The impact was very violent and Berezkin’s kart overturned and was completely destroyed, but more importantly the Russian driver suffered many bruises and was unable to race the two Heats scheduled for Saturday. Fortunately, on Sunday morning he was able to take part in the warm up and took part in the Pre Final starting from the last row. His race was simply extraordinary with 19 positions recovered and the final 8th place which, however, was not enough for him to enter the Final by a few points.
Better notes came from the MINI category where in the Under 10 class, Max Zvarich was always in the top ten in the Heats and achieved an excellent P6 in the Final. Colbe Pattison’s first race with Kalì Kart colors was also positive, even if his weekend was partly compromised by a mistake in Qualifying. His best race was the Super Heat on Sunday morning in which he finished in P7, while in the Final he remained in the middle of the pack, losing contact with the leaders. The work carried out over the weekend by the English driver was certainly positive and will represent the foundations on which to build the next steps of the season.
Ayrton Tonna, however, encountered more difficulties, failing to qualify for the Final after alternating very good performances with some mistakes. In the OKN Junior category for the brothers Mark and Marat Zvarich it was a contact-making race and the first step of a long work that will see them involved in all the major events of this category.
The Sarno race was also very important because the structure of David Rodorigo Teknoteka made its debut in the race as supplier of the TM engines for the MINI category, which will support the Kalì Kart team this season as an engine partner. The work carried out side by side during the winter has already borne the first results and all the feedback received from the track is very encouraging. As regards the TM engines of the OKN junior and OKJ categories, Kalì Kart will continue the collaboration with Machac Motors which, in these categories, boasts an incredible palmares and needs no introduction at all.
Now the team is moving to the Lonato track where some tests are scheduled for this week and where the 3rdRound of the WSK Master Series will take place the following one.
